We are Canadian investors. I gather this is now a dead investment. But I would be interested in some recourse, if there is one. Wish I could say I was surprised.

Comment on REIT Retreat: Investors Find Problems In Non-Listed REITs by Jerry Tingle http://www.investorprotection.com/blog/2009/09/17/reit-retreat-investors-find-problems-in-non-listed-reits/#comment-27 Wed, 15 Dec 2010 16:43:36 +0000 http://www.investorprotection.com/blog/?p=332#comment-27 An Alabama Investment Advisor, Allen Taylor, is listed on Sterling Trusts Quarterly Statements and is the Advisor who sold me on the Behringer Harvard REIT 1.

I have come to the conclusion that all of the people who work for these organizations and advisors and customer service people are crooks like Bernard Madoff. Before the real estate market dropped I gave orders to opt out and reinvest that money. The replies that I received was that I was making a mistake, that I would be penalized 10%, and about every excuse they could think of.

In my mind, there is no doubt that this crooked scheme was set up to steal investors money. I read the statements some of the people have made and it is clear they have been irrepairably injured. We need to get Attorney Generals involved so that these schemes can be uncovered and the ones responsible charged, convicted and incarcerated.

Comment on Inland American REITs Unsuitable For Some Investors by Tom http://www.investorprotection.com/blog/2010/02/13/inland-american-reits-unsuitable-for-some-investors/#comment-88 Wed, 15 Dec 2010 01:39:42 +0000 http://www.investorprotection.com/blog/?p=683#comment-88 I am in the same situation as Fred and Rich. I had $55,000 in my Inland American Fund and was told that is was a safe investemnt and that I would earn more interest on it than I would in the bank. I beleive my fund has now been revalued at $44,000.

For anyone interested I would also recommend people to stay away from Pacific Life. My father and I opened an annuity with them and my father passed in 2008. I was the beneficiary on his account and his only heir. He left a Will stating this. A Judge in Oklahoma named Tom Lucas granted a court order and cashed out the fund. The money ended up in the hands of my fathers EX wife and she divorced him in 1999. I suppose nobody can be trusted. Our legal system is a complete joke.

Comment on Were You Affected By Inland American, Inland Western REITs? by Rachel http://www.investorprotection.com/blog/2010/03/03/were-you-affected-by-inland-american-inland-western-reits/#comment-112 Sun, 28 Nov 2010 22:15:44 +0000 http://www.investorprotection.com/blog/?p=710#comment-112 We were sold the SwampLand as well by Securities Financial Management. Never told of the risks or the fact that we can’t get our money. We are at risk of being evicted due to unemployment. We have maxed out our credit cards. Can’t apply for Federal Assistance bec we have investments. But these investments are worthless and I can’t even get out of them. I want in on any class action lawsuit. Meanwhile I am supposed to pay him annual fees. He gets his money but I can’t. He wants me to stop the reinvestment and put the puny dividends into a money market account to he can get his management fees. Please keep me informed if there is a class action!!!!

When I called my advisor to see if I should take my money out (because I had my money in long enough that no penalties were attached) due to all the economic crises I had been hearing about, he told me to not worry about it, Inland was not affected and doing great! Two months later they issued the suspension. Of course, the advisor stated, “Well, it’s always a risk — I had no idea.” Since then I have lost much money (which was supposed to be for my child’s college funds) with no ability to recoup. If there’s a class action suit I’M IN TOO!

Comment on Behringer Harvard REIT, Risky Investments for Investors by Jerry http://www.investorprotection.com/blog/2010/02/24/behringer-harvard-reit-risky-investments-for-investors/#comment-94 Sat, 06 Nov 2010 21:18:50 +0000 http://www.investorprotection.com/blog/?p=697#comment-94 When I invested in the REIT the financial planner said that it was a safe investment and that it would pay a dividend of 7% annually, could step up each year and if not would never fall below 7%.

When did they freeze withdrawal or the ability to sell the REIT I?

This investment had built to 109K and I am now retired. It is a good thing that I had my investments spread over many bonds with no more than 4% risk.

Please let me know if there is anything that can be done. I hear very little from Behringer these days, it looks like they are continuing with their pyramid scheme.

Jerry

Never advised about risks. I have called and told that the broker had some as well, perhaps he would like to purchase mine. I doubt it. Have suffered a loss. Think they were pushing a bill of goods, I think they were in bed with as well
